ANIMAL NUTRITION SHORT COURSE

A short course on "NEWER APPROACHES FOR FEED SECURITY AND FOOD SAFETY" is going to be held from  February 09-29, 2012 at CAFT in Animal Nutrition, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly-243122. It is primarily aimed to provide advanced knowledge o the scientists and teachers posted in ICAR. Interested candidates may apply to either Dr. D.N. Course Objective
The role of animal feed in the production of safe food is very well recognized. The quality and quantity of feed affects the livestock productivity, quality of livestock products (milk, meat, wool etc.), public health, feed and food trade and security. The present course is aimed at addressing the issues of feed security and food safety in the rapidly advancing fields of animal nutrition associated with livestock products, to develop interdisciplinary team approach to problem solving; to facilitate interactions with researchers and teachers in animal nutrition, and to provide opportunities for sharing and exchange of views in light of recent global advancements in the field of feed security and food safety.
Course Description
This course is designed for researchers and teachers of Animal Nutrition working in the National  Agricultural Research System including state agricultural/veterinary universities, organizations involved in feed security and food safety and other related subjects. The course is especially applicable to professionals involved in animal nutrition research activities, with particular interest in livestock product and health safety assessment. The course objectives will be achieved through combination of presentations, practical exercises and group discussions. It will particularly focus on:
  1. Livestock farming and food security
  2. Animal feed security in India
  3. Animal feed safety systems
  4. Scenario of feed security and food safety in Indian context
  5. Nutritional interventions to increase resource base and quality livestock products
  6. Quality assurance of livestock feeds and livestock products
  7. Biological safety of animal feeds and livestock products
  8. Sustainable livestock production and environment protection
  9. Analytical techniques for assessing feed quality and livestock products

Course Location

The course will be held at the Centre of Advanced Faculty Training in Animal Nutrition, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar. Established in 1921, the Animal Nutrition Division of IVRI, Izatnagar has been the torch bearer for scientific and human resource development in the areas of Animal Nutrition and Feed Science. In the process, it has evolved into a premier seat of learning and was recognized as Centre of Advanced Studies, which has now been re-named as the Centre of  Advanced Faculty Training in Animal Nutrition by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research with mandate of human resource development in the frontier areas of Animal Nutrition to train scientists and teachers on National Agricultural Research System. The proposed course on Newer Approaches for Feed Security and Food Safety is the 37th course in this series.

Participants anticipating delay in forwarding their application through proper channel may send an advance copy directly and bring no objection certificate at the time of joining the course. Applicants are advised not to bring any companion with them. Each participant will be required to deliver a seminar highlighting his/ her activities in their parent organization and also to provide a feedback on the course.

The application of Dr/Mr/Ms ___________ is hereby recommended for attending the course entitled Newer  pproaches for Feed Security and Food Safety being organized by the CAFT in Animal Nutrition, IVRI, Izatnagar from February 09-29, 2012 for a period of 3 weeks. It is further certified that the information furnished by him/her has been verified and found correct.

Financial Implications
No course fee will be charged from the participants, however, the participants joining the course will be paid TA as per entitled class, but restricted to II AC Sleeper Class, and DA  for the journey period, provided they produce a certificate from the parent organization to the effect that they are not being paid any TA/DA for this course. The participants will have to produce documentary evidence of traveling in the entitled class. Lodging and boarding for all the outside participants will be arranged free of cost in one of our guest houses for the period of their stay during the course.
