Indian Society of Veterinary Medicine (ISVM) Awards

ISVM Awards & Rules


The members of the ISVM are requested to send their applications in quadruplicate (4 copies) for the below mentioned awards with all relevant supportive documents including photocopy for proof of age, date of enrollment as life members etc., as required for specific award, through their controlling officer/Head of the department verifying their credentials/contributions.

General rules applicable to all the awards:-
  1. Only members of ISVM are eligible to apply for any of the awards
  2. Incumbent executive committee members of ISVM are not eligible for consideration of any of these awards, exception being FISVM.
  3. Recipient of any ISVM award during last two years is not eligible to apply or to be considered for any of ISVM award
  4. Persons applying for more than one award should indicate the preference order.
  5. The minimum quorum for all the awards except FISVM is two.
  6. The General Secretary, in consultation with the President, may reject application for any award for want of required quorum or incomplete application.
  7. The General Secretary and President reserve all rights to accept/reject any application without assigning any reason for the same.
  8. All the applicants will be required to submit half page write-up for the citation along with their original applications.
  9. A sum of Rs. 250/- will be payable by the applicants as demand draft in favour of Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine, for each award applied as the processing fee to the ISVM.
  10. The award may not be given for a year if an applicant does not get the qualifying minimum score.
A. SHRI RAM LAL AGRAWAL GOLD MEDAL 
            The Gold Medal has been instituted by M/s Indian Herbs Research & Supply Co. Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) in the memory of its Founder, Late Shri Ram Lal Agrawal. The rules for this award are:
1.     The award shall be conferred annually upon a scientist who is a life member of the Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine in recognition of his/her distinguished work/contribution in the field of Veterinary Medicine. In every third year, the award shall be given to a scientist who has contributed significantly in the field of Indigenous Veterinary Medicine.
2.     The research work done in the field of Indigenous Veterinary Medicine during last three years shall be taken into account for the year of the award.
3.     In addition to research findings, the contribution of the individual in promoting research in Indigenous Veterinary Medicine shall also form the criterion for the selection.
4.     The individual competing for this Gold Medal, should be of minimum 45 years of age as on 1st January of the year of evaluation.
5.     An individual shall be eligible for the award of this Gold Medal only once in his/her life time.
6.     A judging committee comprising eminent/senior members of ISVM not below the rank of Professor and equivalent shall be nominated by the General Secretary in consultation with the President of the Society. The names of the judges of committee and process of evaluation of the eligible candidates will be kept strictly confidential. The judges would be requested to complete evaluation within a fortnight as per the evaluation proforma and submit their recommendations in sealed cover to the General Secretary who will open the results in the ensuing ISVM executive committee meeting at the time of annual convention of ISVM.
7.     Person(s) desirous of competing for this award may submit their claim to the General Secretary, ISVM through Head of the Department/Office along with certificate(s) for the proof of age, verification of the research work undertaken etc. by the candidate on or before the prescribed date.
8.     The General Secretary in consultation with the President may reject incomplete applications and for want of required quorum (minimum of 2 candidates). The executive committees also reserve all rights to accept/reject the application(s) without assigning any reasons for the same.

B. INTAS YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD 
1.     The ISVM award silver trophy to a young scientist (life member of ISVM) below 32 years of age on 1st of January of the year of presenting his/her own research findings at the time of convention of ISVM. Besides the award, citation will also be given.
2.     Entries in duplicate of full length research paper typed in double space on bond paper with zerox copy of the proof of age should be sent on or before the last date prescribed to the General Secretary, ISVM along with the certificate from the Head of the Department, verifying the place of research work and year during which work was done.
3.     The paper to be presented for this award shall not find a place as Abstract  in the proceedings of the convention.

4.     Only the author’s name will be given who will present the paper himself/herself.
5.     The award in the form of trophy and a certificate to the selected young scientist shall be given at the Annual Convention in the same year. If the research work presented by the young scientist is the part of his/her post-graduate thesis, the same has to be mentioned clearly along with a certificate from the Advisor (Guide). The name of the guide will also figure in the award certificate.
6.     The names of six referees appointed by the General Secretary in consultation with the President of the Society will be kept strictly confidential. Three referees will be contacted for evaluation of the research work and another three referees for presentation just before presentation begins. The referee’s decision will be final. The referees selected should not be normally from the place where the competing candidate has undertaken his/her research work.
7.     The executive committee may reject incomplete application/award for want of required quorum (minimum of 2 candidates). They also reserve all rights to accept/reject the application without assigning any reasons for the same.
8.     The number of awards for INTAS Young Scientist is increased to 3 from the year 2003 and onwards with the condition that if the number of application is more than 7, 5 to 7 and 1 to 4, the number of awards to be given will be 3, 2 and 1, respectively.  

 
C. DR. P.L. NARAYANA RAO GOLD MEDAL
1.     The Gold Medal is instituted by Mr. Ram Prasad, Managing Partner, M/S Sri Venkateswara Animal Health Products, Vijaylakshmipuram, Bepatia, Guntur Distt. (A.P.) in memory of his late father Dr. P.L. Narayana Rao, the then Professor and Head, Department of Medicine, College of Veterinary Science, Tirupati (A.P.).
2.     The medal will be awarded annually to an eminent scientist/academician in Veterinary Medicine, who is the life member of ISVM and above 50 years of age, on the basis of his/her contribution to the teaching/research in Veterinary Medicine and Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine.
3.     The executive body of ISVM will decide the person to be awarded the medal during each annual convention.
4.     Mr. Ram Prasad will arrange to send/present the Dr. P.L. Narayana Rao Gold Medal at least a week before the annual convention every year. The General Secretary of ISVM should apprise him about the venue and other details of the convention well in advance.
5.     The medal will be awarded only once to a person in his/her life time.
6.     The award will be given in one year to the immediate past President, ISVM and in next year it will be awarded to any one of the immediate past General Secretary/Treasurer/Editor/Associate Editor, who has contributed the maximum for the ISVM (Editor/Associate Editor will be eligible after completion of their 4 year term in office). There will no age bar for the award. The award will be given based on nomination by ISVM executive in office. No application for the award is to be invited. It carries a certificate and gold medal. The medal is to be prepared by the ISVM from the annual interest of corpus fund of Rs. 10,000/- available in the fixed deposit of ISVM. 

D. DR. D.C. BLOOD GOLD MEDAL 
1.         Dr. D.C. Blood Gold Medal will be awarded every year from the interest accruing on the corpus fund of Rs. 10,000/- deposited for the said purpose out of the savings of ISVM convention held at A.P.A.U., Hyderabad, 1990. The award will comprise a gold plated medal and a citation.

2.     The award is open for the life members of ISVM of the age above 32 and below 45 years as on 1st January of the year of evaluation subject to the condition that he/she has not been conferred any award by the ISVM for the last 2 years in his/her eligible category. For example, any person getting the award in 2005 shall be eligible to apply in 2008 and so on. 3.     The applications indicating teaching, research and other activities in the field of Veterinary Medicine will be invited by the General Secretary, ISVM every year. 4.     The applications will be evaluated by a committee of 3 eminent members to be nominated by the General Secretary in consultation with the President of ISVM. The names of the judges of committee and process of evaluation of the eligible candidates will be kept strictly confidential. The judges would be requested to complete evaluation within a fortnight as per the evaluation proforma and submit their recommendations in a sealed cover to the General Secretary. In the event, same person gets any other gold medal of ISVM that year, the next deserving person can be awarded by the executive committee. 5.     The applicants are required to send their applications through Head of the Department/Office along with required certificate for the proof of age etc. on or before the prescribed date. 6.     General Secretary in consultation with the President has right to reject incomplete applications/award for want of required quorum of minimum of 2 applications. The executive committee also reserves the right to accept/reject the application(s) without assigning any reasons to the applicant for the same.
E. SMT. P.Z. SHARMA GOLD MEDAL FOR CANINE MEDICINE
1.     The Gold Medal will be awarded from the interest accrued on the corpus funds of Rs. 10,000/- deposited for the said purpose by Dr. S.Z. Sharma, Veterinary Clinic Sukhmani, TVPD Scheme, 10th Road, Mumbai-49 (Maharashtra).
2.     The medal will be awarded every alternate year from 1994 onwards (the date of commencement of award) to a life member of the ISVM in recognition to his/her outstanding contributions in the field of Canine Medicine during the last 5 years in the form of quality research and clinical publications, generating innovative ideas and development of newer techniques.
3.     The contributions will be assessed by an expert committee comprising three eminent members of the society nominated by the General Secretary in consultation with the President of ISVM. The names of the judges of committees and process of evaluation of the eligible candidates will be kept strictly confidential. The Judges would complete evaluation within a fortnight as per the evaluation proforma and submit their recommendations in a sealed cover to the General Secretary who will open the results at the ensuing ISVM executive committee meeting at the time of convention.
4.     The aspirants for the award will have to submit their contribution details to the General Secretary, ISVM through respective Heads of Department/Office, verifying their credentials/contributors, on or before the prescribed date.
5.     The General Secretary in consultation with the President may reject incomplete application/award for want of required quorum (minimum of 2 candidates). The executive committee also reserves all rights to accept/reject the application(s)             without assigning any reasons to the applicant for the same.
6.     The medal will be awarded only once to a person in his/her life time
F. SRI MATUNGA JAIN GOWRAKSATH MANDALI, GOLD MEDAL FOR  BOVINE MEDICINE
1.     The Gold Medal will be awarded from the interest accrued on the corpus fund of Rs. 10,000/- deposited for the said purpose by Sri Matunga Jain Gowraksath Mandali, Mumbai (Maharashtra). 2.     The medal will be awarded every alternate year from 1994 onwards (the year of its commencement) to a life member of the society in recognition of his/her outstanding contributions in the field of Bovine Medicine (including cattle and buffaloes) during the last 5 years in the form of quality research and clinical publications, innovative ideas and development of newer techniques which can be used in the field of Bovine Medicine. 3.     The contributions will be assessed by an expert committee comprising 3 eminent members of the society nominated by the General Secretary in consultation with the President. The Judges will submit their recommendations to the General Secretary in a sealed cover. 4.     Aspirants for the award will have to submit their contribution details to the General Secretary of ISVM through their respective Heads of Department/Office, verifying their credentials/contributions on or before the prescribed date.
5.     The General Secretary in consultation with the President may reject incomplete application/award for want of required quorum (minimum of 2 candidates). The executive committee also reserves all rights to accept/reject the application(s) without assigning any reasons for the same.
6.     This medal will be awarded only once to a person in his/her life time.
G. S.K. MYLSAMY GOUNDER GOLD MEDAL FOR POULTRY MEDICINE
1.     The SKM Gold Medal will be awarded every year from the interest accruing on the corpus fund of Rs. 10,000/- deposited for the said purpose by the industrialist Sri S.K. Mylsamy Gounder, Managing Driector, S.K.M. Feeds and Foods India Ltd., Erode, Periyar district (Tamil Nadu).
2.     The award is open for life members of ISVM.
3.     The applications indicating teaching, research and extension and other activities in the field of Poultry Medicine will be invited by the General Secretary every year and must be submitted by aspirants through respective Heads of Department/Office, verifying their credentials/contributions on or before the prescribed date.
4.     The applications will be evaluated by a committee of 3 eminent members to be nominated by General Secretary in consultation with the President. The Judges will submit their recommendations to the General Secretary in a sealed cover.
5.     The General Secretary in consultation with the President may reject incomplete application/award for want of required quorum (minimum of 2 candidates). The executive committee also reserves all rights to accept/reject the application(s) without assigning any reasons for the same.
6.     The medal will be awarded only once to a person in his/her life time.
H. DR. G.N. DUTTA AWARD   
   This award is instituted by Dr. (Mrs.) Jyoti Dutta in memory of her late husband Dr. G.N. Dutta from the interest accrued on the corpus fund of Rs. 25,000.00 deposited by Mrs. Dutta on 05.02.2003.
1.     This award will be conferred to an applicant who has completed 5 years as life member of ISVM and is of minimum 45 years of age as on 1st January of corresponding year.
2.     The award will be given in recognition of his/her meritorious research contributions during the last 10 years to the Veterinary Medicine especially in area of management of infectious diseases in animals.
3.     The award will be for “Life members achievement in Veterinary Medicine Research”
.4.     The applications will be evaluated by a committee of 3 eminent members to be nominated by General Secretary in consultation with the President. The Judges will submit their recommendations to the General Secretary in a sealed cover.
5.     The General Secretary in consultation with the President may reject incomplete application/award for want of required quorum (minimum of 2 candidates). The executive committee also reserves all rights to accept/reject the application(s) without assigning any reasons for the same.
6.     The medal will be awarded only once to a person in his/her life time.
I. BEST CLINCAL ARTICLE AWARD
1.     It will be awarded to the best clinical article published in the Indian Journal of Veterinary Medicine during the year immediately proceeding the year of annual conference of ISVM.
2.     The articles will be sent to three Judges by the Editor and based on the score; the best article will be selected and placed before the executive committee members for approval.
3.     The award will be in the form of a plaque and certificate to the first author, and certificates to co-authors to be given every year at the ensuing ISVM convention. 4.     The criteria for scoring marks shall be as follows:

     Total                              30 marks
J. BEST RESEARCH ARTICLE AWARD
. 1.   It will be awarded to the best full length research article published in the Indian Journal of Veterinary Medicine during the year immediately proceeding the year of annual conference of ISVM.
2.   The research articles will be sent to three Judges by the Editor and based on the score; the best research article will be selected and placed before the executive committee members for approval.
3.   The best research article award will be in the form of a plaque and certificate to the first author, and certificates to co-authors to be given every year at the ensuing ISVM convention.
4.   The criteria for scoring marks shall be as follows:

                Total                        30 marks
K. ISVM APPRECIATION AWARD
1.   The ISVM Appreciation Award will be given to a life member of the Society. It will carry a citation and plaque of honour.
2.   The proposal for the award with justification will be made by the President, General Secretary, Organizing Secretary and Editor/Associate Editor during the executive committee meeting at the time of annual convention on the basis of services rendered by a life member for the betterment of ISVM/IJVM affairs.
3.   The executive committee will approve a maximum of 4 persons each year for this award from the names proposed as above.
L. FIELD VETERINARIAN AWARD
1.   The Field Veterinarian Award shall be given to a field veterinarian who is a life member of ISVM.
2.   The award shall be given in the form a plaque and certificate at ISVM convention based on the oral presentation by the applicant in National Symposium.
3.   The presentation shall be judged by a committee of three members nominated by the executive committee for this purpose. 
M. AWARD OF FELLOWSHIP OF ISVM (FISVM)
1.   The life  members of ISVM for the past 10 years are only eligible for the award of FISVM.
2.   ISVM Fellowship is awarded only to the members having master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine/Preventive Medicine/Clinical Medicine and their designation should not be lesser than the rank of Professor.
3.   The fellowship is awarded to a person of high professional standing, who has rendered commendable service for the cause of Veterinary Medicine.
4.   The application for FISVM is required to be submitted along with comprehensive information about academic and professional achievements, distinguished published work/contributions in the field of Veterinary Medicine.
5.   A demand draft of Rs. 2000/- in favour of “Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine”  must be enclosed with the application as the required fee for FISVM.
6.   The unsuccessful candidates will be refunded this amount. There is option of consideration of application for FISVM for three consecutive years in addition to the existing provision of yearly submission of fresh application. In that case the applicant may submit supplementary information every year to improve the bio-data as per the original application until either he/she succeeds in getting the FISVM or the lapse of 3 years period. The fee of FISVM in such cases submitted with original application will be retained by ISVM and in case the candidate is not awarded FISVM even by the end of 3 rd year the ISVM will return the fee to the applicant without interest. An applicant is required to give a written request to the General Secretary, ISVM for availing 3 year option plan with the original application to avail the facility. The eligible ISVM members are requested to submit their application with detailed information under the following subheads.

Academic and research achievements.
Total particulars of employment.
National and ISVM awards received.Total number of research and clinical publications (not popular articles) in peer reviewed Indian and Foreign Journals (enclose the list).
List of published reviews in Journals and international proceedings/books.
Books/Monographs published.
Number of research and clinical publications relevant for specific award (enclose  list).
Contributions to the advancement of Veterinary Medicine.
List of papers presented in international conferences/symposium held abroad and any other scientific achievements not covered in above cited information.

 Remark Note:
(i)   Members of the incumbent executive committee of ISVM are not eligible for consideration of any of these awards except for Fellow ISVM.
(ii)  Recipient of any of the ISVM awards during last 2 years is not eligible to apply/or be considered, for example, any person getting the award in 2005 shall be eligible to apply in 2008 and so on.
(iii) Person applying for more than one award should indicate preference order.
(iv) Person competing for any of these awards cannot become member of any of the Judging Committee.

FAO E-CONFERENCE ON GM ORGANISMS



An FAO e-mail conference about genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the pipeline. The announcement for the conference, that is hosted by the FAO Biotechnology Forum, is provided below. It gives a brief overview to the conference as well as instructions for subscribing. The conference is entitled "GMOs in the pipeline: Looking to the next five years in the crop, forestry, livestock, aquaculture and agro-industry sectors in developing countries" and it takes place from 5 November to 2 December 2012.

GMOs in the pipeline - FAO e-mail conference


From 5 November to 2 December 2012 the FAO Biotechnology Forum is hosting its next e-mail conference, entitled "GMOs in the pipeline: Looking to the next five years in the crop, forestry, livestock, aquaculture and agro-industry sectors in developing countries". Its goal is to inform the debate about genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the pipeline, considering the specific kind of GMOs that are likely to be commercialised in developing countries over the next five years and to discuss their potential implications. The conference is open to everyone, is free and will be moderated. To subscribe to the conference, send an e-mail to listserv@listserv.fao.org with the following one line in the body of the message (leave the subject line blank):

Accommodation for delegates would be arranged in private hotels, tariffs for which range from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 5000 per day. Rooms in hotels will be booked on a first come- first-served basis. The organizing committee shall make arrangements for local sight-seeing. Further, trip to nearby places of tourist interest shall also be facilitated for interested delegates on payment basis.
